Palma de Mallorca was the home of one of the greatest artists of the twentieth century, Joan Miro.
Joan Miro Foundation
If you’re an artist and visiting Mallorca or whether you’re interested in the arts, then one place you must certainly visit while you’re on the island is the Joan Miro Foundation. It is in the west of Palma, in the hills overlooking the bay. It very much reminded me of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, just a few miles from where I grew up in England.
The Institute is dedicated to the work of the artist with visiting exhibitions from various photographers, fine art painters and sculptors. You could quite happily spend a few hours here, admiring the life’s work of Miro both in the modernist architectural build of the gallery or in the sculpture garden. There is also a cafe located on site where many of the ferrel cats enjoy basking in the sun.
