We’re back on the island of Menorca for a few days photographing the beautiful former capital of the island Ciutadella. We’ll be back here in a few weeks time for further commissions and also to photograph the spectacular fiesta San Joan, also in Ciutadella. The ancient town was the old capital before the British occupied it in the eighteenth century. They made Mahon the new capital as it had a strategic port where they could take full control of the whole of the Mediterranean.
We have photographed here many times over the wedding season in summer and the streets really serve us well when choosing interesting backdrops. If you’re Catholic then the Santa Maria Cathedral could be a possible ceremonial venue. Other smaller churches dot the town. If you’re Church of England there is a possibility of using the other churches. Speak with Reverend Paul Strudwick at the Anglican Church in Es Castell.
If it’s not a wedding you’re looking to organise then just look online at Sant Joan fiesta on the third Sunday in June. It’s a real spectacle with the native Menorquin horses which parade through the streets and rear on their hind legs to the amazement of the crowd.
If you’re thinking of staying in the town then Tres Sants boutique hotel is worth looking into. The link is below.
