Nomad Atelier

Our latest photography shoot for Nomad Atelier took place at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Nomad manufacturers all it’s clothing across the road from it’s small atelier in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. It sources fabric from Scotland and Wales and other European countries, if the fabric or quality cannot be found within the British Isles.

What is unusual about this store is that the small team who work on the shop floor, also source the fabric and design the clothing. The customer gets the experience of talking to someone who knows the product inside-out. And because the manufacturing is done on site, aspects of the design can be changed so you get a made to measure service.

The Nomad label started fifteen years ago. It sat with other designers in the Pollyanna store which operated for nearly fifty years. Now it stands alone in it’s own store and is bought by many of the existing customers from Pollyanna.

Yorkshire Sculpture Park

The Yorkshire Sculpture Park opened it’s doors almost forty years ago and has now become one of the most popular cultural centres in England. It exhibits world class sculptors from around the world.

To be granted permission from the park and the sculptor, to use her creations as part of our shoot, was a privilege. The park surrounds Bretton Hall, an old manor house with mature gardens and lakes, set within the heart of the South Yorkshire countryside.

It is within the grounds where the sculptures are exhibited and mirrors other sculpture parks in Japan and Germany and other countries, where people love to see these masterpieces within the backdrop of the countryside. Hepworth and Moore dominate the permanent pieces as both were from this area.
