The Hepworth Gallery

The Hepworth Gallery stands as one of the most contemporary and cutting edge architectural buildings in the North of England. It opened in May of twenty eleven and takes it’s name from the prolific artist Barbara Hepworth who was born and educated in the City of Wakefield. Now it is the home of some of her work. One of the seven galleries has a permanent exhibition dedicated to her sculptures.

Built on a small island in the City of Wakefield, the building has the Calder River running beside the structure. This is evident from the many huge windows which frame the river from the inside. In addition to the permanent collection you can see the very best from sculptors working today. The gallery now has it’s own annual sculpture prize, the winner receiving the accolade and thousands of pounds to support their passion for expressing themselves through sculpture.
